UJIMA Academy Successfully Launched
Fall 2008
UJIMA,
Inc. has partnered with the Houston Independent School District, Young
Learners School and the Houston Housing Authority to launch the UJIMA
Academy at Settegast Heights Apartment Community. The center
provides
early childhood education to deserving children ages 3-4 who have
little access and opportunity to receive the tools needed to
successfully begin gradeschool.
UJIMA Academy has enrolled 15 children for the 2008 school year.
Students who are participating in this initial phase of UJIMA
Academy are experiencing an unprecedented amount of preparation and
academic success. Beyond that, these children represent families
who are being challenged and equipped to support their children's
academic endeavors, and parents who are now able to seek and gain
employment, achieving economic stability for their families.
UJIMA is excited to begin moving toward a full-day program, scheduled
to launch in early 2009. This full-day program will provide
educational tools to students with more extensive programming and a
design that further meets the scheduling needs of our families.
Please join UJIMA, Inc. in positioning our young children for success by becoming a Friend of UJIMA and making a tax-deductible donation toward this program.
